I went to the ny auto show with Jim and some of his friends. It quickly progressed from mild interest to the most boring experience I've had in recent memory. It was like walking around a parking lot. So little on the concept side, everything was a similar shaped sedan. Except the Porsches. I briefly considered my current low income/low expense/extra free-time lifestyle, and found it incompatible with a little daydream of me exiting a brand new Porsche in an expensive suit. Then I imagined sitting on the BQE in traffic and it vanished.
The only interesting things were the engines and transmissions, removed from the cars and placed on stands like organ models. They seemed to be so complex as to defy the possibility that a person could design them. The transmissions especially; layers of nested worm gears like a Japanese puzzle box.
